I recently got a call from Prajna Parasher at Chatham University. They were in a bit of a bind with a class, and needed someone to teach it on very short notice. So starting this week (although, the class technically started last week), I’ll be teaching Print Design at Chatham. It’s been awhile since I’ve spent some time up there, so I’m pretty excited about the whole thing.

Opportunities
December 28, 2008This will be my last week working for the animal hospital. Starting January 5th, I’ll be working at Jefferson (people!) Hospital, as a Multimedia Specialist. I’m sad to leave, but also very excited about the new position. They already have work piled up for me there!
Since this will be full-time, it will certainly cut down on my freelancing. I’ll still be doing some photography, but the design work will be very limited, since I’ll be pretty busy.
Keep an eye out at http://mooreclick.wordpress.com for photo updates!

Back in Pittsburgh
November 7, 2008I got to visit the guys at Fireman Creative for the day last week. Their usual video guru was out, and they had some emergency editing to do. I haven’t done much video work lately, and doing so much freelancing, it’s nice to get to work around other people. They have a few more video projects coming up that I may get to work on, including some claymation (Exciting!)

Ivy League
October 21, 2008Yesterday, I got to go and shoot an event at the Harvard Princeton Yale Club in Pittsburgh. I’ve probably walked past the building a hundred times, and never noticed that it was there. The Neghborhood Legal Services Association was having an event there to kick off their Equal Justice campaign. They focus on making sure those who need legal services can get them, even if they aren’t able to afford them on their own. It’s a good cause that has done a lot of great work for the Pittsburgh area, so it’s always fun to be involved in that sort of thing.

Happy Birthday!
October 16, 2008Last Sunday, I got to hang out at the lovely Longue Vue Club with the Acheson family. The girls were hosting a birthday dinner party for their mother, and wanted me to photograph the event. They are a lovely family, and did a fantastic job of decorating the room. A new photo series is up on the website (www.mooreclick.com), and there will be one featured on the photo-a-day site soon.

Rebooked
October 12, 2008As it turns out, the folks at Martinizing liked the photos I took so much, they’ve asked me to come back up and take a few ‘action shots’ of them working. I’m always excited to get repeat business, and they were all so nice to work with for the first shoot. We haven’t firmed up a date just yet, but I’m looking forward to it.

Taken to the cleaners
October 11, 2008I had such a good time shooting Scott & family at Martinizing Dry Cleaning in Wexford. It’s a family run place, and they wanted some nice portraits to hang in the lobby, and a few to use for marketing. Of course, I couldn’t stop taking pictures of their two little girls. Too cute.
On a personal note, John and I have booked our trip to DC at the end of November. I’m hoping all the election brouhaha will have wound down by then. I’m also using some of my freelancing money to buy a good winter coat. You’d think living in Pennsylvania I’d be better equipped to handle cold weather, but you’d be incorrect. You can of course expect a new photo series on the site when we get back.

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia
September 26, 2008I know it’s been a lot more photography news than design news lately, but that just seems to be where my projects are taking me right now. As you may have noticed over at the photo-a-day project, I went and picked up a Nikon D40 with an 8GB card (I can’t believe how cheap those things have gotten, back in my day… ahem. Sorry).
I also thought that now would be a nice time for the photography site to spread its little wings, and it has since moved over to http://www.mooreclick.com. I’ve done my best to make sure that everything is functional before it went live, but no move is without its kinks. If you find something isn’t working for you, please give me a heads up! There will still be some CSS fiddling to get everything settled in, but Moore Photography officially has its own web space.

Picking up
September 18, 2008It seems that putting the effort into sprucing up the photo site has been worth it. I’ve booked some interesting work – a dinner party in October and a wedding in May – with opportunities popping up all the time. I’ve always loved taking and editing photos, so I’m glad I’m able to make it a bigger part of my life.
In honor of all these photo ops, I’m also going to be sprucing up my equipment list. Some of your profits should always be reinvested in your business, so I’m planning to use some of the money I make from photography for photography. The photo-a-day project should be a great opportunity to practice with the new gear!

Moore Photography
September 9, 2008I’ve been tinkering with the photography site lately, since I’m getting a lot of responses for freelance photography. This really serves two purposes – it needs done, of course, but also gives me a chance to brush up on my css and web design skills.
This made me think of another dual purpose pursuit – a photo-a-day project. Forcing yourself to take a photograph every single day really encourages creativity, and out of these 365 photos, at least a few will eventually be added to my portfolio. More creative shots, plus expanding the portfolio. Brilliant.
I’ve added a link to the sidebar, of course, but the 365 project can be found at http://mooreclick.wordpress.com.
